Being a parent

Bringing up kids does not come with an instruction manual for all the things you will face. It is one of the most difficult things you can do as well as one of the most rewarding. Most people learn how to bring up kids as they go, influenced by the way they were brought up or by what they have read or watched others do. This section talks about being a parent – a dad, a mum, a teenage parent or a grandparent.

Living with families

Families have changed a great deal in recent years and there are now many different forms of family, as well as different styles of parents. The family in which your child grows up in will have a big influence on how well your child will cope with situations, relationships and living. Many times families work well. However, most people argue with other members of their family from time to time. Parents may argue about money, the children and household jobs; children fight about any number of things. Sometimes arguments get out of hand and people get hurt. This section talks about some of the different experiences in families including ways to help them work well and tips for when they don’t. It also talks about violence, parent’s rights and family break-up.
